GuideOne Insurance reports net income of $23.5 million and a company-high surplus of $308 million

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – (February 15, 2006) – GuideOne Insurance, one of the leading insurers of churches in the United States, today announced its most profitable year ever for its core operations, with 2005 net income of $23.5 million ($33.2 million before taxes), up from $20.3 million ($23.0 million before taxes) in 2004.

The results came in spite of the second straight year of extreme weather activity for the insurance industry, with hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma causing the industry's worst ever CAT year. GuideOne experienced in excess of $170 million in claims ($35.5 million net of reinsurance) from these storms alone, with most of the approximately 3,650 claims coming from its policyholders in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

“Our hearts and prayers continue to go out to those impacted by last year's devastating series of hurricanes,” said Jim Wallace, GuideOne president and chief executive officer. “GuideOne employees and agents continue to provide our customers fast and fair claims service so that they can begin rebuilding their lives.”

During 2005, GuideOne also announced that it is utilizing its extensive history and expertise in insuring churches to better serve and protect the people who attend church. The company introduced FaithGuard auto and homeowners insurance, products specifically designed with special discounts and benefits to protect the lifestyles of churchgoers of all faiths.

"2005 was a banner year for GuideOne," said Jim Wallace, GuideOne president and chief executive officer. "Since launching our new FaithGuard policies for churchgoers, 63 percent of our new personal lines policies now carry the FaithGuard endorsement and our company is celebrating another year of financial success.”

GuideOne's surplus stands at $308 million, up from $287 million the prior year. This is the highest level of surplus in GuideOne's 59-year history. In addition, the company's assets passed the $1 billion mark, ending the year at $1.2 billion in total assets.

The GuideOne Foundation – Supporting the Same Charitable Causes that You Support

GuideOne's history as a socially responsible organization dates back to 1947 when the company was founded as America's first auto insurer for nondrinkers.

Over the years, the company gained a loyal following among religious leaders, expanded its product lines, and developed the nation's first multi-peril insurance policy for churches in 1962. But since the beginning, GuideOne has remained steadfast in the fight against drinking and driving and underage drinking in America. By building on that social mission, GuideOne is striving to make a positive difference in society.

GuideOne's social commitment was enhanced further in 1998 when the GuideOne Foundation was created. Today, the Foundation supports many local, national, and international causes that are most important to you. Charitable giving by the GuideOne Foundation is designed to make a positive impact on the communities of GuideOne policyholders, their ministries and charitable causes that GuideOne customers value most. Support offered by the GuideOne Foundation also is reflected in the vision, mission, and core values of GuideOne Insurance.
